Reign of Assassins (2010)
Director: Chao-Bin Su, John Woo
Writer: Chao-Bin Su
Cast: Michelle Yeoh, Woo-sung Jung, Shawn Yue
MPAA Rating: Not Rated
Synopsis: A former assassin disappears with an ancient corpse that promises to restore health and vitality to all who master its secrets.
Thoughts: I love me some Michelle Yeoh, so it's easy to see why John Woo and Chao-Bin Su's martial arts fantasy Reign of Assassins is something I would be hopelessly drawn to. The directors deftly blend tender romance, light comedy, and mind-boggling martial arts into a swift and easily digestible 117 minute visual delight that never really slows down. It's also incredibly fun to watch a movie where evil eunuchs display remarkable kung fu prowess while longing for the days when they had a penis. It's not a classic by any stretch of the imagination, but it's certainly worthy of intense investigation.
