A Serbian Film (2010)
Director: Srdjan Spasojevic
Writers: Srdjan Spasojevic, Aleksandar Radivojevic
Cast: Srdjan Todorovic, Sergej Trifunovic, Jelena Gavrilovic
MPAA Rating: Not Rated

Synopsis: A former adult film star is lured out of retirement by a mysterious director with a hard-on for extreme pornography.

Thoughts: No joke, dear readers -- this nasty little number almost broke my brain. Not only is this film equipped with an abundance of unsettling sexual imagery and a harrowing performance from Srdjan Todorovic, it also contains something called "newborn porn", which is honestly one of the most horrifyingly unforgettable sequences I've ever encountered. Reaching the end credits feels like a right of passage, one that requires an extended visit to a gifted psychologist upon completion. This is a bold, provocative, and exhilarating experience that is definitely not for the weak of heart.

Recipe For Success: Loads of Horrifying Imagery + Srdjan Todorovic + I've Never Seen Anyone Murdered with An Erection Before

I fucking hated this movie through and through and wish I could go back and choose something else to watch. Nothing really gets to me anymore but it was such a bummer from start to finish that I think it actually did some lasting damage. I haven't been talking about it much since I watched it and actively refuse to cover it on my own site because I honestly believe that the less press it receives, the better off the world is.

Seriously! I sort of vented about this on a Brutal As Hell Facebook thread and a lot of their readers and contributors called me out as a pussy because of my reaction and some of them even called it a fun movie and I had to wonder if we watched the same movie where a guy viciously rapes his son's ass to the point where it gushes blood all over him or the movie where the guy fucks the newborn baby or the movie where the guy plows a woman while hacking her head off. The crossover of sex and violence in this flick was so horrific that I couldn't put it away like most of the extreme shit I see. This one stuck with me for a few days and I felt really bad for having watched it.

Here's the thing: Horror movies stopped scaring me a long time ago. With a few exceptions, it just doesn't work anymore. I am, however, a pretty big fan of being horrified, and I suppose that's the appeal of something like "A Serbian Film". It's ugly, nasty, and vile, and I'm suitably repulsed. Is this shock for the sake of shock? Probably. But at the same time, I felt the director and his cast did a hell of a job making this story seem real, and it affected me. Emotionally, physically, morally -- but that's the sort of thing I'm after these days. A good story that's not afraid to explore taboos.

However, if that sort of thing isn't to your liking, that doesn't make you a pussy. It just means it isn't your thing. Understandable.

Anyway, I've never seen you so twisted up about a movie before. Your reaction was unexpected.
