Security tapes are surprisingly durable.
I'm what some may call a "Steve Coogan fan," so I really didn't mind the chummy, warm-hearted humor found buzzing throughout the talented writer/comedian's inoffensive 2001 charmer The Parole Officer. Naturally, if you couldn't care less about Coogan or his unique brand of British humor, I can't imagine you'd find much to love about this particular endeavor. After all, the only reason to watch a Steve Coogan movie is for Steve Coogan -- anything else is just silly. Maximum enjoyment also requires the ability to withstand a plethora of ridiculous, highly illogical situations which seems to spring up whenever a massive loose end needs to be properly tied up and squared away. The plot, of course, is as silly as they come, focusing on the wacky misadventures of a probation officer (Coogan) as he attempts to expose the truth behind the violent death of a crooked accountant, a crime for which our hero has been accused. Minor hilarity ensues. There are a limited number of laugh-out-loud moments sprinkled here and there, and the film is probably more amusing than it is downright hilarious. Coogan, of course, steals the show, nailing the "bumbling nice guy" shtick without whipping the audience into massive fits of unwanted irritation. Lena Headley rounds out the cast as a lukewarm love interest, but I'm sure the only thing you'll remember is her brief nude scene. The Parole Officer is good, light-hearted fun for those who enjoy this sort of cinematic inanity. You know who you are.

The key word here is "framed."
