Judd Nelson is way harsh.

Dean Matthew Ronalds' fabulously off-beat vampire office comedy Netherbeast Incorporated is the sort of unique, genre-bending feature that genuinely gets my blood pumping. It appeals directly to my dry, deadpan sense of humor without seeming calculated or contrived, which is an incredible cinematic feat in and of itself. The film chronicles the exploits of a group of normal, everyday blood-suckers who keep themselves locked away inside Berm-Tech Industries, a company specifically designed to keep their unusual way of life hidden from the rest of the world. As is the case with most office environments, the staff is forced to contend with a number of lofty issues, including gross mismanagement, double-crossing, backhanded employees, and the anxiety associated with the loss of a precious artifact which is the centerpiece of your very existence. Powering Bruce Dellis' quirky script are a handful of snappy performances from Steve Burns, Jason Mewes, Dave Foley, Judd Nelson, and Darrell Hammond, the latter of whom steals each and every scene he's in. Unfortunately, the film sort of loses its way during its uncharacteristically overblown conclusion, but it's really not enough of a disaster to completely derail what is easily one of the best cubicle comedies that isn't currently airing on NBC. More importantly, it doubles as a fairly accurate history lesson. Who knew learning could be so amusing? Besides Alexander Graham Bell, that is.
