Optimus Prime is a genius.

Due in part to the increasing popularity of such inspired directors as Wes Anderson, Judd Apatow, Mike Judge, and Jared Hess, unapologetically geeky comedies featuring a bevy of losers, wimps, and wienies have suddenly become big business. Brian Petersen's deadpan 2006 effort Think Tank continues in this grand nerdy tradition, dropping obscure pop culture references and dated video game nostalgia into the moist laps of lonely twerps the world over. Petersen's quirky tale of a misfit band of twenty-something inventors attempting to thwart a nefarious billiards mogul definitely isn't for everyone, especially when you consider how much nerd-centric hilarity is coursing through the picture's pasty little veins. Think Tank's peculiar sense of humor caters to a very specific audience, thereby alienating almost half the population in the process. The family friendly, PG-rated antics found lurking throughout this 90 minute homage to sheltered suburban living contributes greatly to its success, though I don't anticipate others will feel the same way. Which is fine, I suppose, since most of them thought Knocked Up was the best movie they'd seen all year. I'll take off-beat humor over lame dick and fart jokes any day of the week, my friend.
